In the council ordinary meeting dated 21 November 2017, Council discussed the future of the Darwin Duchess. Council will not be expending any further funds on the Duchess, other then those necessary for removal and disposal.
Should any community members wish to restore and/or repurpose the Duchess, Council will require a fully costed project plan by January 31, 2018. Submissions will be considered at Council’s meeting on February 20 2018.
Project plans can be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or delivered to 142 Wagait Tower Road, Wagait Beach. If no submissions are received by the due date, council will initiate steps to remover and dispose of the Duchess.

General elections for the Wagait Shire Council are held every four years, as outlined in the Local Government Act.
If a vacancy arises on Council during the four year term, a by-election is held and must take place within three months of the vacancy arising.
Since May 2012, the NT Electoral Commission conducts all Council elections and voting is compulsory. The next general election for local government is due to be held in August 2017.
