Greetings Wagait Beach residents and friends. Walk to School Day is underway as I write this – and what a resounding success! Approximately 45 Wagait schoolkids (and a few keen parents) hopped off the bus a lot earlier than usual and made the annual trek to the jetty where a fully catered breakfast awaited them.

Wagait Shire Council is a local government body formerly called Cox Peninsula Government Council. Wagait Beach is on the Cox Peninsula, just west of Darwin. Wagait Beach is named after the Wagait Tower, which was constructed during World War II, and overlooked the beach. The tower was destroyed by Cyclone Tracy in 1974.
